Commonly called the spiral ginger, the crape ginger can reach a height of 1 to 3 metres. This native plant is notable for its beautiful, large white flowers which care hidden within their leaves or petal-like structure. The crape ginger is commonly cultivated in private homes and parks, and in Malay superstition, is believed to be able to ward off evil spirits.
