Originally from Yemen, the Arabica variation has come to be widely distributed and cultivated in many parts of the world for its seeds. There were attempts to set up coffee plantations in Singapore towards the end of the 19th century, although Singapore’s unsuitable soil conditions meant that plantation owners shifted to other cash crops.
