Red Connarus
(akar merah; connarus ferrugineus)
c. 19th century
This woody climber used to thrive in the open fields of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, distinguished by its rusty red hairs found on the plant, especially near its leaves and stems. The plant is as dangerous as it looks: the fruits are poisonous, and the seeds were used to kill wild dogs in Southeast Asia.
