The sacred lotus is native to Asia from India to China, and found its way to Singapore through organic transplantation. This common inhabitant of large ponds and lakes is a sacred symbol of purity, beauty and tranquillity to both the Buddhists and Hindus. The lotus is usually firmly rooted in the bottom of the pond or river, with its large pink to white flowers and round leaves extending above water.
