Pigeon Orchid
Pigeon Orchird
(bunga angina; dendrobium crumenatum)
c. early 19th century
While this common orchid can be easily spotted on the roadside trees of Singapore, it is not native to the island. As the name suggests, it is likely that the plant has been transplanted by wind, especially during tropical thunderstorms. It is also during such thunderstorms that see to a sudden drop in temperature, that the orchid’s fragrant white flowers appear within 8 to 11 days and unfortunately, tend to last for just one day.
