Chinatown Crossings

Arts culture and heritage Community

Gangsters, funeral parlours, nightsoil carriers. If you thought you knew every aspect of the vibrant cultural heritage Chinatown has to offer, you’d be in for a surprise.

Hoping to bring the hidden histories of Chinatown to light is promenade theatre experience, Chinatown Crossings. In this production, audience members are fully immersed in the life of Kunalan, the Indian male lead. As Kunalan relates anecdotes of a childhood spent growing on the streets of Chinatown, audience members are brought on a theatrical tour of the back alleys of Kreta Ayer and the quaint district of Keong Saik.

Atmospheric places of cultural liveliness and worship in Chinatown are interwoven into Kunalan’s tale and exuberantly brought to life in this roving theatre performance, as audience members are treated to an array of interesting adventures in the nooks and crannies scattered across the neighbourhood.

From experiencing the insides of a Chinatown shophouse to reliving the echoes of old Singapore through a soundscape, Chinatown Crossings presents a novel re-discovering of the many lost and found practices and art forms of Chinatown’s lively community.

Ticket sales (https://chinatowncrossings.peatix.com/) for Chinatown Crossings are open from now until the 18th of August 2018.
