Community Living Room at Blk 52

Community Living Room at Block 52 is a project that brings together residents and stakeholders from Block 52 Cassia Crescent, in the planning and design of a community space at the level 2 void deck. A significant proportion of Cassia Crescent residents include those who have been relocated from now-defunct neighbourhoods, such as Dakota Crescent and Rochor Centre.

As part of the project, the team at Participate in Design (P!D) has been engaging the residents of Cassia Crescent through a series of intensive house-to-house interviews conducted with some 50 households to understand the needs and opportunities of the community. Following this, pop-up community design workshops were held to suss out ideas on how residents envision the void deck space could be for them. Based on their collective insights, aspirations and ideas, the void deck at level 2 was eventually chosen as the site of intervention for the team to design and activate in collaboration with the community.

By applying a participatory design process with a community-driven approach, P!D hopes to renew a sense of belief that everyone has something positive to contribute towards the design and planning of an inclusive community space that residents can proudly call their own.
